The game paused as players from both teams formed a circle around Ivey, shielding him from the crowd while medical staff attended to him.
The Little Caesars Arena crowd, visibly shaken, chanted “Ivey! Ivey!” in support.
After several tense minutes, Ivey was stretchered off the court with a towel covering his injured leg, leaving a somber atmosphere in the arena.
Players huddled for a prayer on the court before resuming play, a reflection of their camaraderie and support for Ivey.
Ivey, who has been a standout performer this season, was having an exceptional night before the injury, scoring 22 points on efficient shooting.
This season, he’s been a critical player for Detroit, averaging 17.4 points per game and forming a promising backcourt duo with Cade Cunningham.
After the game, teammates expressed their emotions. Cade Cunningham called Ivey’s injury “tough on the whole group,” emphasizing, “He’s built for it. He’s going to shake back knowing him. He’ll work hard and be better than before.” Head coach J.B. Bickerstaff praised Ivey’s dedication, labeling him an unparalleled teammate and competitor.
The Pistons went on to secure a 105-96 victory.
The extent of his injury remains unclear.
