Welcome back to Thursday Night Football
The Los Angeles Rams are set to host the Minnesota VIkings tonight on Thursday Night Football, setting up one of my favorite Cinderella clashes of the season. All Thursday night games kick off at 8:15 ET on Prime Video.
As always in our brave new world of expansive sports gambling, it is now easier to bet on games than to watch them. You can catch current odds on all NFL games for Week 8 here on FanDuel.
I’m not saying either of these teams are necessarily an underdog, even if FanDuel has the Rams has 3-point home underdogs. I’m saying that both quarterbacks are princesses that I expect to turn back into a pumpkin at some point during this season.
Matt Stafford (36) is too old to be considered a viable long term starter and his arm has definitely already seen better days. The Rams have certainly had some receiver troubles this season and that has also put a damper on the usually high-powered Sean McVay offense, but Stafford has also only thrown for three touchdowns.
Sam Darnold (enigma), on the other hand, has a long history of pumpkining just as his current team’s fan base starts to believe in his potential. While he has a better supporting cast in Minnesota than he ever sniffed with either the New York Jets or the Carolina Panthers, it’s hard to believe that Bad Darnold isn’t lurking inside somewhere, just waiting to emerge. Perhaps Halloween is the time.
Still, Darnold has been playing good football and is on a talented, well coached team. He’s the edge in this game on paper and that’s why I’m picking the Minnesota Vikings to win tonight.
As always, use this space to talk about the action as it unfolds.
You know the drill.
This is now an open thread!
