A storied pick over the franchise’s 30 years.
Update: Carolina will hold the No. 8 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Lions won, putting the Panthers in the same position that, in recent years, have delivered such stars as Christian McCaffrey and Jaycee Horn to the team.
The Carolina Panthers will either pick seventh or eighth overall in the 2025 NFL Draft pending the results of the currently ongoing Minnesota Vikings vs Detroit Lions game. The Panthers are tied with the New York Jets with a 5-12 record. The NFL’s lengthy tie-breaking procedures specify that this tie will be broken by each team’s strength of schedule. The team who had the easier schedule will get the higher draft pick.
The Jets strength of schedule for the 2024 season is measured as a 0.497 while the Panthers currently grade out as a 0.498. In short, a Vikings win will give the Panthers the seventh pick. A Lions win gives it to the Jets. In a beautiful turn of events, the draft fates of these two teams comes down to the fortunes of on Sam Darnold.
The currently projected top ten picks of the draft would be held as follows:
- Tennessee Titans (3-14)
- Cleveland Browns (3-14)
- New York Giants (3-14)
- New England Patriots (4-13)
- Jacksonville Jaguars (4-13)
- Las Vegas Raiders (4-13)
- New York Jets (5-12)
- Carolina Panthers (5-12)
- New Orleans Saints (5-12)
- Chicago Bears (5-12)
I hate to say it, everybody, but it is now officially draft season. Get on with your mocks.
