The New York Jets are moving in a different direction for the 2025 season. The organization has confirmed Aaron Rodgers is no longer on the roster.
ESPN is reporting that Big Green has formally parted ways with Aaron Rodgers. The team did not share specifics on why they felt a change was needed but explained that they made it clear they were looking something else. The New York Jets “shared that our intention was to move in a different direction at quarterback,” said GM Darren Mougey and Head Coach coach Aaron Glenn in a joint statement.
“It was important to have this discussion now to provide clarity and enable each of us the proper time to plan for our respective futures,” the press release continued. “We want to thank him for the leadership, passion, and dedication he brought to the organization and wish him success moving forward.”
Aaron Rodgers was originally signed by the team in 2023, but in his two seasons with the Jets, he failed to meet expectations from the city. During his 2024 run, it is alleged he was the reason that coach Robert Saleh was fired only a couple of weeks into the season. He was also fined for missing a mandatory practice; it was reported he took a personal trip to Egypt. Additionally, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini claims Aaron’s frequent appearances on The Pat McAfee Show were also a pain point for Jets management.
Aaron Rodgers has yet to comment publicly on the split.
