Another week in sports, another drama-filled football team.
Thankfully, it’s not the Dallas Cowboys who are still trying to find their identity this season. Instead, it’s an AFC team.
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson is only in his second year, but the 4-4 record may already affect his attitude.
During last Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans, the 22-year-old voluntarily took himself out for one play in the third quarter, claiming he “needed a breather” because he ran the ball three times in a row.
His team lost 23-20, and his completion percentage was season-worst, so head coach Shane Steichen decided he could take all the breathers he wanted by benching him and upping QB2 Joe Flacco to the starting position.
While some are questioning his work ethic on this one play, our host, Samaria Terry, thinks it has been brewing.
“The front office and Shane Steichen have not been pleased with the product Anthony Richardson has put on the field. I feel like when he got injured with the hip earlier this season and Joe Flacco came in, I think they were more pleased with Flacco. His maturity level, he’s obviously a veteran at 39 years old,” Terry said. “I think they just needed to find a reason to bench Anthony Richardson, and this was, unfortunately, the straw that broke the camel’s back.”
Rodney Rikai likens Richardson’s situation to that of young Carolina Pathers’ Bryce Young, who’s also been thrust into a leading position he’s not experienced enough for.
Then, Terry and Rikai also chopped it up the nailbiting series of the week: the World Series between the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers.
Up 3-0, the Dodgers lost Game 4, and the Yankees got off to a stellar start in Game 5 before costly mistakes led the Dodgers to win the World Series.
They brought on MSG’s on-air journalist Bianca Peart and Bold and Brilliant Life co-founder to drop some gems and attempt to find a silver lining for the Yankees.
“It was a tough game for the Yankees but still a big win since they haven’t been to the World Series since 2009,” Peart said.
