The nepo baby conversations have returned regarding Bronny James and his preferential treatment at the NBA level despite being a 55th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
This time, it’s coming from former NFL player Ryan Clark, who took to his The Pivot podcast to speak about the news of Bronny James only playing home games for the Lakers’ G League affiliate South Bay Lakers, reportedly because the team flies commercial and doesn’t stay at as fancy hotels as the Lakers.
Clark took issue with the ruling, wondering what Bronny had done to earn those stipulations and even calling him a “part-time G Leaguer.”
But cohost Samaria Terry asks Rodney Rikai if that’s the right take, and he falls on the opposite side of the debate.
“There was a lot of validity in what Ryan Clark said because there is something to be said about getting it out of the mud, but there’s also an ideology in our community that we have to struggle, and if we don’t, then our success is not valid,” Rikai said. “And regardless of how Bronny James starts his career, we won’t know until the end of his career what went right and what went wrong.”
The hosts also got into the NFL’s latest craze of doing the Trump dance after scoring a touchdown, as Wiley would rather them voice their political opinions than hop on trends.
“I feel like it’s a slap in the face when you can dance or wear a hat or any paraphernalia, and you’re not speaking about it,” she said. “I just feel like there’s so many eyeballs on it and there’s a lot of impressionable people watching. And we need to hear from you if you really know what you’re talking about.”
For our special guest this week, we talked with former NBA big man Greg Oden. He tells us his happiest moment was draft night because “it was very busy and there was a lot going on, but to hear my name called changed my life, and it was nice to be recognized for the work I’d put in since I was a kid.
See the hosts ask Oden how much he thinks he’d make with NIL deals back at Ohio State in 2007, what he thinks of the draft’s first pick, Zaccharie Risacher, and more in the latest episode of The Fumble above.
