See how they draft picks involved in the blockbuster 2023 trade for Bryce Young ultimately fell out
The blockbuster trade that brought Bryce Young to the Carolina Panthers as the first overall pick from the 2023 NFL Draft is finally complete. Now that the Chicago Bears have made their final selection, we can stack up both sides of the deal.
Original trade compensation for Bryce Young
The Panthers sent wide receiver DJ Moore, the ninth overall pick and the 61st overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, their first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and their second-round selection in 2025.
Carolina received the pick used on Young.
When the 2024 NFL Draft order came order, the pick the Panthers sent to Chicago ended up being the first overall pick.
In 2025, the pick in the second round slots in at 39 overall.
Who have the Bears selected with the draft picks from the Bryce Young trade?
In 2025, the Bears selected Missouri WR Luther Burden to add to their burgeoning young offense.
The Bears picks got complicated by a bunch of wheeling and dealing in 2023. They traded back from ninth overall to tenth overall in 2023 to pick up a 2024 fourth-round pick. They then moved up five spots from 61 in 2023 to 56 (losing 136 in the process). I’m going to consider those fourth-round picks as coming out in the wash.
The Bears have added:
- DJ Moore, Wide receiver
- 2023 Round 1 (10): Darnell Wright, Offensive Tackle, Tennessee
- 2023 Round 2 (56): Tyrique Stevenson, Cornerback, Miami
- 2024 Round 1 (1): Caleb Williams, Quarterback, Southern California
- 2025 Round 2 (39): Luther Burde, Wide receiver, Missouri
How has DJ Moore performed for the Bears since being traded by Carolina?
In two seasons with the Bears, Moore has started all 34 games catching 194 passes for 2330 yards and 14 touchdowns. He’s got a rushing touchdown, too, on 19 carries for 96 yards. He’s been excellent despite the tumultuous QB situation in Chicago.
How has Darnell Wright played for the Bears?
After being picked in the top 10 a few spots after Bryce Young, Wright has started 33 games for the Bears at right tackle. He’s been an excellent run blocker and one of the top overall tackles in the league, per Pro Football Focus.
How has Tyrique Stevenson played for the Bears?
Stevenson has played 32 games for Chicago with six interceptions, 28 passes defended, and 164 tackles. He’s played at least 81% of the team’s defensive snaps and chipped in on special teams, too.
How has Caleb Williams played for the Bears?
Obviously sending the top overall pick the following year was not what the Panthers had in mind, but it’s what ultimately happened. In Williams’ rookie season, he actually performed pretty well despite Chicago’s 5-12 record. He hit 62.5% of his passes for 3541 yards, 20 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He added 489 yards on 81 rushes but also fumbled the ball 10 times.
