The Cincinnati Bengals are shockingly going to grant defensive stalwart Trey Hendrickson permission to seek a trade. According to the breaking news, the Bengals have given their answer to Hendrickson before free agency on what they will do next. In a twist, the defensive end was looking for the Bengals to either “pay or trade me” but it’s apparent now the Bengals won’t be bringing back the former third-rounder. Originally selected in the 2017 NFL Draft, it wasn’t long before Hendrickson appeared on the Pat McAfee Show to express his frustrations on the miscommunication from the team’s front office.
Hendrickson became one of the most dependable catalysts for the Bengals’ defense and now joins the likes of other pass rushers like Myles Garrett in free agency. In 2023, the gadget earned himself a contract extension which lasted up until now and Hendrickson will be on the move again for the third time in his career. Although Director of Player Personnel Duke Tobin teased a potential trade, Henderickson is now in line to earn himself probably the best contract on the market. Since the Bengals have to worry about finding a legitimate deal for Ja’Marr Chase and after tagging Tee Higgins, it will come to the expense of the defense.
Cincinnati also lost Sam Hubbard so it’s a huge blow to their defensive line but the Sacks leader will have a competitive market and these five teams could emerge as suitors.

Possible Next Teams
Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers spent the last two offseasons building an offense around quarterback Bryce Young. However, it’s time for the team to trade for one of the most explosive pass rushers in the league. Veteran Jadeveon Clowney could be on the verge of a cut if the Panthers trade for Hendrickson. The presence of this monstrous defender could give Derrick Brown a relieving return on the defensive line.
Los Angeles Chargers
With releasing Joey Bosa and potentially losing Khalil Mack in free agency, the Chargers will probably have to build their defensive line again as well. As long as they re-sign either Teair Tart or Poona Ford, they should be in phenomenal business to trade for Hendrickson. This rings true since the Chargers have money to burn and they could use budget their resources the right way in this situation.
Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions are closer to a Super Bowl than anyone thinks. After losing Aidan Hutchinson to a season-ending injury, the defense hasn’t been the same which could be why they embarrassingly lost to the Commanders in the divisional round. Marcus Davenport is a free agent and no doubt, Hendrickson is a better suitor in this situation.
Baltimore Ravens
While the Bengals probably won’t trade Hendrickson to their rival, they could at the right price. The defensive line is increasingly getting young with the presence of Broderick Washington and Nose Tackle Travis Jones. Nnamdi Madubuike needs a legitimate pass rusher to help him on the opposite side and Hendrickson could be the answer.
Washington Commanders
Meanwhile, the Commanders are in good graces with a promising offense. However, the organization is going to be aggressive in adding some defensive talent as they’re on the verge of releasing Jonathan Allen. Hendrickson could be somewhat of a nostalgic Ryan Kerrigan for next season.
