CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Bryce Young is returning to his role as the Carolina Panthers’ starting quarterback this week against the Broncos, following an injury to Andy Dalton, head coach Dave Canales said Wednesday.
Dalton, who was involved in a car accident in south Charlotte Tuesday, has sprained right thumb, Canales said, adding, “he feels good, other than his thumb.”
Young started the first two games of the season after being the starter for all but one game a year ago. He threw for a total of 245 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions. He was then replaced by Dalton the following week, and has only played in a backup role in two games since.
The team reported that Dalton did not practice Wednesday and stood on the sideline with his right hand in the hoodie pocket. Canales said he wants to wait and see if Dalton will be able to serve as a backup this week.
The Panthers (1-6) kick off at Denver (4-3) Sunday at 4:25 p.m.
