Pro Bowl Quarterback Jameis Winston could get bad news after his latest benching but the Ravens, Panthers might be able to save his career. According to multiple reports, the Cleveland Browns benched Winston after throwing three interceptions in favor of Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Originally selected in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft, the veteran was shaping himself to become an elite signal-caller in the league after shredding several franchise records with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, he made the move to New Orleans for a couple of seasons before landing a third opportunity behind the Cleveland Browns, becoming a starter after Deshaun Watson’s injury.
It’s hard to imagine the Browns would bring back Winston considering he will become a free agent in March. Head Coach Kevin Stefanski expects Watson to return as the starter which was already bad news to begin with before going against the Kansas City Chiefs. Winstons’ turnovers are putting him on thin ice with the team so it shouldn’t surprise anyone if the Browns decide to let him walk this upcoming free agency. At 30 years old, it’s hard to imagine Winston will ever get a starting opportunity anywhere else after hoping to use the backup role as a springboard to get full-time duties.
The former Pro Bowler is aging but he could earn another backup job as he could be capable of leading a team in the right direction. A new scenery shift might be what he needs to rejuvenate his career. Winston is facing a huge uphill battle but teams like the Ravens, Panthers could bring him back to life.

Learning Behind Lamar Jackson
The Baltimore Ravens continue to perform at a high level in their offense and after signing Derrick Henry this past offseason, they could bring home the Lombardi trophy. John Harbaugh expects to get everyone in the mix rather than focusing on running the ball which could be smart given Henry’s injury history. No one is ever taking Lamar Jackson‘s job barring any consistent unproductive years he may have later on in his career. However, they made several moves to improve the offense, including a trade for Diontae Johnson but never for a legitimate backup signal-caller.
Josh Johnson is no capable quarterback that can keep the Ravens competitive in the postseason. It would be a disaster if the Ravens lose Jackson which is why adding depth behind him is important. While Winston won’t be a full-time starter in this league anymore, he could keep the team intact to help the Ravens’ chances in the playoffs. Winston may have a few issues staying consistent but it’s a significant upgrade over Johnson.
Veteran Insurance in Carolina
There’s no word on what the Carolina Panthers will do about their quarterback situation. They brought in Andy Dalton for a few starts after benching Bryce Young in favor of the veteran. The experience didn’t last long to no surprise since Dalton is nothing more but a bridge quarterback who could help a team win at least two ballgames. However, benching Bryce Young should signal to the entire offense they could look towards this upcoming free agency to address the quarterback issue.
Young is improving but there’s no guarantee if that gas will last into next season. After two disastrous years, it shouldn’t surprise anyone if the Panthers bring in another veteran while they explore the draft. The Panthers don’t plan on drafting another quarterback and while that could be true, they should bring in a veteran like Winston who could be a better thrower than Dalton. He’s much younger and can be capable of taking this team on a winning season on his back with a new supporting cast.
