Now that the first three rounds of the draft are over, where does the big board stand?
After upgrading the offense in round one, the Carolina Panthers addressed the pass rushing portion of their defense on day two, trading up for both Texas A&M Aggie Nic Scourton and Ole Miss Rebel Princely Umanmielen. The Panthers don’t have too many glaring needs, so who’s still available on Day 3?
Defensive Line
With all the wheeling and dealing Dan Morgan has already done, it’s hard to tell exactly where the Panthers will be picking on day three. That said, they could look to add more beef up front with players like Florida State’s Joshua Farmer and Ole Miss’ JJ Pegues. Further down most big boards are guys like Virginia Tech’s Aeneas Peebles and South Carolina’s Tonka Hemingway. Hemingway should be a likely target because his name is amazing and he went to South Carolina. The Panthers have not yet taken their requisite Gamecock in this draft.
Defensive Backs
Safety is the main need for the Panthers, both starter and depth. The top safety on the board is Oklahoma’s Billy Bowman, but there are other options as well. Penn State’s Jaylen Reed, Ohio State’s Lathan Ransom, and Alabama’s Malachi Moore are all available, and the Panthers could look to add multiple safeties at this point in the draft.
Offensive Line
Purdue’s Marcus Mbow, who most saw as a second rounder, is still available heading into day three. LSU’s Miles Frazier could be another interior lineman on the team’s radar. Potential tackles include Texas’ Cameron Williams and Kansas’ Logan Brown. Since neither starting OT for the Panthers is under contract after this season, definitely look out for those names.
Offensive Skill Positions
Despite taking McMillan in the first round, the Panthers could look to bring an influx of skill position talent on day three. Utah State’s Jalen Royals and Virginia Tech’s Jaylin Lane are the top receivers still available. If the Panthers want to add to the tight end room, they could add another Texas Longhorn in Gunnar Helm. Speedy backs like Tennessee Volunteer Dylan Sampson and Virginia Tech’s Bhayshul Tuten should also be names to keep an eye on.
