A quick look at the best Carolina Panthers bets on FanDuel
What a difference one game with competent quarterbacking can make. All of a sudden bets are being offered where the Panthers are favored to score any points at all. As always in our brave new world of expansive sports gambling, it is now easier to bet on games than to watch them. You can catch current odds on all NFL games for Week 4 here on FanDuel.
This space is going to offer weekly updates and advice on player and team prop bets specific to the Carolina Panthers. Take a look:
Any Time TD Scorer
Chuba Hubbard -105
Hubbard is rated as the third likeliest touchdown scorer in this game by any time odds, just behind Cincinnati Bengals Ja’Marr Chase and Zack Moss (-110, each). Hubbard only has one touchdown this season, a 6-yard pass from Andy Dalton last week, but that is bound to change as the Panthers open up the offense under Dalton.
Player Passing Yds
Andy Dalton O/U 226.5 (-113/-113)
Fanduel has set the bar at almost 100 yards fewer than Dalton passed for against a good Las Vegas Raiders defense. The Bengals are a step down from the Raiders on defense, which is good for the Panthers, as they lost left guard Damien Lewis and wide receiver Adam Thielen this week.
That’s two steps backward and an indeterminate number of steps forward. I still think this game devolves into a shootout, but you sharing that opinion may depend on your belief in Brady Christensen and Jonathan Mingo.
Receptions
Jonathan Mingo – O/U 2.5 (-160/+122)
Dionate Johnson – O/U 5.5 (-102/+-128)
Xavier Legette – O/U 3.5 (+142/-188)
This says a lot about how Fanduel sees the Panthers responding to the loss of Thielen. Mingo has the same over/under as Tommy Tremble and Chuba Hubbard. Last week Dalton targeted eight different receivers, completing passes to seven of them. All seven players who caught a pass caught at least two passes.
What we don’t know is how likely that history is to repeat itself. We have seen one week of real offense from the Panthers, so assuming that degree of target distribution will continue is an act of faith more than insight. I’d keep an eye on these odds, but mostly hold them in your back pocket for weeks to come as the rhythms of Dave Canales’ offense become more apparent.
