The Carolina Panthers added a few new faces on Tuesday.
As announced late this morning, the team has signed outside linebacker Carlos “Boogie” Basham and tight end James Mitchell to reserve/future contracts.
Basham, a Roanoke, Va. native, was a standout at nearby Wake Forest University—where he totaled 20.5 sacks over four seasons. He was named a first-team All-ACC member in 2019 and a third-team All-ACC member in 2020.
The 6-foot-3, 274-pounder would then be selected by the Buffalo Bills in the second round of the 2021 NFL draft. He went on to appear in 23 games for the Bills between 2021 and 2022 before joining the New York Giants for the 2023 and 2024 campaigns.
Mitchell, a fifth-round selection in the 2022 NFL draft, has spent each of his three seasons with the Detroit Lions. He’s totaled 13 catches for 141 yards and a touchdown.
He and Basham join the following players who have signed reserve/future deals with the Panthers this offseason:
