Which in-house free agents will the Carolina Panthers be looking to keep home this offseason?
Joe Person of The Athletic just offered up a number of soon-to-be free agents that the organization is hoping to re-sign. Here’s what Person wrote in his column from Monday morning:
But there are a handful of players they’d like back at the right price. They recently pushed back the void date on center Austin Corbett’s contract to March 11, giving them an extra three weeks to get a deal done with a player who, when healthy, can anchor the middle of the line. The Panthers would like to re-sign special teams captain Sam Franklin, and TE Tommy Tremble and WR David Moore could be back on short-term deals.
After lining up at right guard for his first two campaigns in Carolina, Corbett made the transition to center beginning in 2024. But the veteran lineman would only play in five games before succumbing to a season-ending biceps tear, his third major injury in as many years.
As Person alluded to, the Panthers have until March 11 to reach a new pact with Corbett before the void years on his 2022 contract kick in. If the deadline passes without an agreement, the team is on the hook for a $7.7 million cap hit on Corbett in 2025 and a $3.8 million hit in 2026.
For now, the Panthers have already brought back two of their own—quarterback Andy Dalton and longtime long snapper JJ Jansen.
