The ‘top’ of the roster churn
The Carolina Panthers continue to churn the ‘top’ of their roster by releasing outside linebacker Charles Harris in favor of former Minnesota Vikings corner Akayleb Evans.
Harris was tied for the team lead in sacks with three on the season. He was tied with A’Shawn Robinson, but, as the team website notes, his playing time was quickly disappearing with the effective return of outside linebacker D.J. Wonnum from injured reserve. Hopefully this is also a sign of how they feel about the impending return of Amare Barno from IR.
Evans is a former fourth round pick by the Vikings out of the 2022 NFL Draft and brings great size for the position (6’2”, 198 lbs). He started the full 2023 season for Minnesota and has appeared in 32 games in his two-and-a-half year career, including seven so far this season. He has mostly played as an outside cornerback, versus as a nickelback, in his career.
