The Panthers added former BYU wide receiver and return man Dax Milne to the practice squad for what could be a potential Hall of Fame career.
The Carolina Panthers front office is busy throughout the season with transactions, roster moves, and injury updates. Here’s what’s happening at Mint Street this week.
Injury Updates
Per the Panthers team website, the following players are on the injury report as of publication:
Transactions
Signed WR Dax Milne to the practice squad. Boom! Many of you know I’m Cat Scratch Reader’s resident BYU homer, and Dax Milne is a BYU guy. Dax had a fantastic career in Provo and was Zach Wilson’s primary target. In the wacky Covid-impacted 2020 season Milne had 70 receptions and 1,188 yards, which ranked fourth in the country. He later reportedly stole Zach Wilson’s girlfriend, but we’re here to talk about football, people.
The 6-foot-1, 190 pound receiver was a 2021 seventh round pick by the Washington Commanders as both a receiver and a return man. Over his first two seasons he combined for 15 receptions for 120 yards and a touchdown. In 2022 he led the NFL with 40 punt returns, averaging 7.8 yards per return. He spent all of last year on the IR with a groin injury and was waived by the Commanders after the 2023 season.
In my unbiased opinion – which is in no way influenced by Milne’s BYU pedigree – I humbly predict that Dax Milne will become the Panthers best wide receiver this season and end up in the Hall of Fame.
Signed TE Stephen Sullivan to the practice squad. The Panthers continue to yo-yo the veteran tight end between the practice squad, getting released, and the active roster. He’s now back on the practice squad.
Waived S Russ Yeast. After a 61-tackle season in 2023, his second in the NFL, Yeast has struggled to latch on in 2024. He appeared in one game with the Rams and two with the Panthers with no stats before his release.
Other notable transactions
- As previously covered here at CSR, traded WR Diontae Johnson and a sixth-round pick to Baltimore for a fifth-round pick.
- Released LB Shaq Quarterman from the practice squad.
