Rookie running back Jonathon Brooks makes progress while outside linebacker Jacoby Windmon was plucked off the Steelers practice squad.
The Carolina Panthers front office is busy throughout the season with transactions, roster moves, and injury updates. Here’s what’s happening at Mint Street this week.
Injury Updates
Per the Panthers team website, the following players are on the injury report as of publication:
Transactions
Designated RB Jonathon Brooks to return from Non-Football Injury list. As previously noted here at CSR, the Panthers second round rookie has begun practicing this week and the hope is he makes his NFL debut sometime soon.
Signed OLB Jacoby Windmon to the active roster. The undrafted rookie from Michigan State went undrafted this year but signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad. Carolina plucked him off the Steelers practice squad by signing him to the active roster.
Signed WR Dan Chisena to the practice squad. The fifth-year veteran is an NFL journeyman after spending three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings then splitting time last year between the Arizona Cardinals and Baltimore Ravens. Playing almost exclusively as a special teamer (he has played just 12 offensive snaps in his career), Chisena has 13 career tackles and one forced fumble in 31 games.
Signed LB Shaq Quarterman to the practice squad. Originally a 2020 fourth round pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars, he spent four seasons with the Jags before joining the Los Angeles Chargers this year. He appeared in three games with the Chargers and had been through the cycle several times with them of being waived, then re-signed, then moved to the practice squad, then elevated to the active roster. The Chargers released him (again) earlier this week and the Panthers scooped him up. He has 55 career tackles in 66 games.
Other notable transactions
- Designated S Sam Franklin to return from IR
- Designated DT Jaden Crumedy to return from IR
- Waived OLB Tarron Jackson
- Released WR Deon Cain from the practice squad
