Former first round pick Shaq Lawson is now a Panther while Cade Mays returns to Carolina’s offensive line.
The Carolina Panthers front office is busy throughout the season with transactions, roster moves, and injury updates. Here’s what’s happening at Mint Street this week.
Injury Updates
Per the Panthers team website, the following players are on the injury report as of publication:
Transactions
Signed OLB Shaq Lawson to the practice squad. The former No. 19 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft was available, so the Panthers signed him. He’s coming off a 2023 campaign with the Buffalo Bills in which he appeared in 16 games with one start, 13 tackles, and one sack. He has 26 career sacks and 207 career tackles and is just 30 years old, so signing him to the practice squad carries no risk but perhaps some upside.
Signed OL Cade Mays to the active roster. Mays was a 2022 sixth round pick by the Panthers and he appeared in 27 games with seven starts in his first two seasons. But the Panthers waived him before the start of the 2024 season and he ended up on the New York Giants practice squad. The Panthers have now claimed him from the Giants by placing him on the active roster.
Released S Alex Cook from the practice squad. Last season Cook appeared in 10 games for the Panthers as an undrafted rookie free agent, recording 11 tackles. He has been released from the practice squad after not yet appearing in a game this season.
Released TE Stephen Sullivan from the practice squad. After spending his rookie season in 2020 with the Seattle Seahawks, Sullivan came to Carolina and appeared in 28 games between 2021 and 2023. He had yet to see the field this season before his release from the practice squad.
