The Panthers have some tight ends who are hurting so the team has brought in a new Messiah (Swinson).
The Carolina Panthers front office is busy throughout the season with transactions, roster moves, and injury updates. Here’s what’s happening at Mint Street this week.
Injury Updates
Per the Panthers team website, the following players are on the injury report as of publication:
Transactions
Signed TE Messiah Swinson. The 2024 undrafted rookie free agent has nice measurables at 6-foot-7 and 259 pounds. That said, in 47 career college games at Missouri and Arizona State he recorded just 28 receptions for 317 yards and two touchdowns. He provides depth as Tommy Tremble and Ian Thomas are dealing with injuries.
Signed RB Dillon Johnson to the practice squad. Johnson went undrafted in 2024 despite rushing for 1,1995 yards and scoring 16 touchdowns in helping the University of Washington to the national championship game. The UDFA had 20 carries for 89 yards and a touchdown for the Panthers this preseason before getting waived a couple of weeks ago. He has now been signed to the practice squad.
Signed WR Praise Olatoke to the practice squad. The Nigerian-born Olatoke joins the Panthers via the league’s international player exemption. The former Ohio State sprinter recently said he “knew nothing” about American football before joining an OSU club team, so he’s got a long way to go. As part of the NFL’s IPP initiative his presence on the Panthers practice squad will not count against the team’s roster limit.
Released OLB K’Lavon Chaisson. The 2020 first round pick hasn’t lived up to his draft expectations with five sacks in 57 games over four seasons. The Panthers signed him as a free agent this offseason and the general consensus was that he would be on the field this year, so his release is pretty surprising.
