Panthers fall to division-leading Eagles, after coming close to victory for third week in a row, 22 to 16

December 8, 2024 by Fox 46

PHILADELPHIA, PA. (CHARLOTTE SPORTS LIVE) — Despite leading for the majority of the game, the Panthers have another close loss against the division-leading Eagles.

Final: 22 to 16

The Panthers’ defense shut out the Eagles in the first quarter. Nothing too exciting from either team as there was only a combined 120 yards of offense. However, on his first carry late in the quarter, rookie Jonathon Brooks went down with a knee injury and had to be carted off. The team listed him as doubtful to return a few minutes later.

That same drive, Eddy Pineiro made a 38-yard field goal for the only points of the quarter.

The Eagles responded quickly with a 10-play, 70-yard drive that ended in a patented Jalen Hurts ‘tush push.’ The Panthers, on its next possession, put together possibly its best drive of the season so far. 14 plays and almost eight minutes later, Bryce Young hit Tommy Tremble for a three-yard score to go up 10-7 with four minutes left in the half.

Carolina had a chance to really do some damage as they quickly forced a three-and-out, but on the first play after the two-minute warning Bryce Youth threw an interception and the Eagles recovered with 1:50 left on the Panthers’ 44-yard line. Seven plays later, Jalen Hurts was able to find DeVonta Smith for a four-yard touchdown and give the Eagles a 14-10 lead at halftime.

Back from halftime, the Panthers make a touchdown in 12 plays but don’t get an extra field goal point for the first time this season. The third quarter ended with the Panthers ahead by two.

Jaycee Horn gets injured shortly into the final quarter during an Eagles play. As Horn left the field for examination, the Eagles made a 4-yard touchdown but didn’t get an extra point. Eagles succeeded in their two-point conversion attempt, putting them ahead by six.

In the end, the Panthers could not close the gap. The game ended with another close loss for the Panthers. The team returns home to take on the 5-7 Dallas Cowboys at 1 p.m.
