CHARLOTTE, N.C (CHARLOTTE SPORTS LIVE) — The Panthers bolstered their receiving corps Thursday, announcing they signed a former division rival.
The team reported Thursday that it signed Deven Thompkins following a workout. The 5-foot-8 wide receiver is familiar with new head coach Dave Canales, having spent the last two seasons with Tampa Bay.

In 22 games with the Buccaneers, Thompkins caught 22 passes for 115 yards and a touchdown. The 24-year-old out of Utah State also returned kicks and punts. He was waived from the team in May.
In a corresponding move, the Panthers waived rookie defensive lineman Popo Aumavae.
The Panthers now have 12 receivers on their training camp roster. They drafted Xavier Legette with their first pick in the NFL Draft, taking the South Carolina product 33rd overall.
