We’re counting down the days until the Panthers kick off the 2024 season.
We’re officially 9 days away from the Carolina Panthers kicking off the 2024 NFL season against the New Orleans Saints. That’s right, we’re in to single digits now, y’all! It will be their second consecutive road opener. Now it’s time for our annual roster countdown to highlight the players on the Panthers’ roster. Today, we’re taking a closer look at the player wearing the the No. 9 jersey— quarterback Bryce Young.
Young is an exciting prospect for thee 2024 season. Circumstantial evidence suggests that the coaching staff is really high on the young quarterback.
Take, for example, the fact that he is the only Panther to score a touchdown in the preseason (against the Buffalo Bills) who was not released at some point during roster cuts. Tight end Jordan Matthews may be back on the team now, but he was released initially, signed to the practice squad, and then signed back to the regular roster. Jalen Coker, meanwhile, made the initial 53-man roster for almost 24 hours, before being released and signed to the practice squad. Young has stayed on the roster this entire time and is projected to remain on the roster—and even start at quarterback—through at least Week 1.
Need more? Consider that Young scored on every drive that he played in the preseason, averaging one touchdown for every 12 plays that he was on the field for a total of one touchdown and 12 snaps. That’s an impressive efficiency.
All jokes aside, Dave Canales gave Panthers fans the taste of offensive competency from Young and a Panthers offense that many of us have been craving for too long. It was nice, it was brief, and we only have 9 days to go until we get to see if it was the real deal.
How about it Panthers fans, set aside our collective years of disappointment for a moment, what do you think we’re going to realistically see from Young during the season opener against the Saints? Scroll on down to the comments and share your thoughts with us!
