We’re counting down the days until the Panthers kick off the 2024 season.
We’re officially 75 days away from the Carolina Panthers kicking off the 2024 NFL season against the New Orleans Saints. It will be their second consecutive road opener. Now it’s time for our annual roster countdown to highlight the players on the Panthers’ roster. Today, we’re taking a closer look at No. 74 — defensive tackle Ulumoo Ale.
Ulumoo Ale is a 6’6”, 327 lbs samoan mountain of a man. His family moved to Australia, where he developed a love for rugby (despite being a very impressive boxer). This love, combined with his mammoth size, made the switch to football a fairly obvious one when his family moved to Tacoma, Washington before his sophomore year in high school. For college, Ale stayed close to his new home, deciding to play for the Washington Huskies. After being redshirted his freshman year in Seattle, he competed for the left guard spot on the offensive line for three seasons. Heading into the 2022 season, Ale switched over to the defensive side of the ball, lining up inside at defensive tackle.
While he was largely a rotational player for the Huskies, Ale did make some minor impacts on games, notching four tackles for loss and a sack to go with two pass deflections across his two seasons on defense. Ale is just one of six players listed as a defensive tackle on the Panthers’ roster at the moment, meaning he’s competing for a nose tackle spot in the team’s 3-4 defense. While Ale is a long shot to make the opening day roster, I could definitely see him being a practice squad candidate due to his size and potential.
