We’re counting down the days until the Panthers kick off the 2024 season.
We’re officially 69 days away from the Carolina Panthers kicking off the 2024 NFL season and it’s time for our annual roster countdown to highlight the players on the Panthers’ roster. Today, we’re taking a closer look at No. 69 — offensive tackle Jeremiah Crawford.
Crawford joins the Panthers as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Tennessee. The 6-foot-5, 315-ponder is an intriguing prospect. He began his college career in the junior college ranks before spending three seasons with the Vols. He played in 30 career games at Tennessee with 13 starts, nine at left tackle and four on the right side. In all he appeared in 950 snaps with the Vols, 678 at left tackle and 274 at right tackle.
At Tennessee’s Pro Day he measured with 34 ¾-inch arms and a 7-foot wingspan, and we all know how important that kind of length is for talent evaluators. Somewhere, Dave Gettleman is drooling. While Crawford wasn’t invited to the NFL Combine, his Pro Day result of 7.21 seconds in the three-cone drill reportedly would have ranked second-best among offensive lineman. The rest of his athletic scores found on Relative Athletic Score are pretty abysmal as he scored a bottom-tier 1.83 RAS for the events on file (which did not include his three-cone drill).
Most depth charts have Crawford listed as the No. 3 left tackle, so he’ll likely stick on the blind side in Carolina. His position versatility having played both left and right tackle is a plus.
While all UDFAs face an uphill battle, the one thing playing in Crawford’s favor is the Panthers lack of quality depth at the tackle position. New arrival Yosh Nijman is the backup left tackle and he’s a veteran with 67 career games and 22 starts under his belt, but Crawford’s likely the next in line. He has a clear path of making the practice squad and could potentially land on the 53-man roster at some point if there are injuries to Ikem Ekwonu or Nijman.
The struggle is real for UDFAs, but Jeremiah Crawford has landed in a good spot with the Panthers to begin his NFL journey.
