We’re counting down the days until the Panthers kick off the 2024 season.
We’re officially 33 days away from the Carolina Panthers kicking off the 2024 NFL season against the New Orleans Saints. It will be their second consecutive road opener. Now it’s time for our annual roster countdown to highlight the players on the Panthers’ roster. Today, we’re taking a closer look at the player who is wearing the No. 33 jersey — linebacker Tae Davis.
Davis is a 6’1” 220 lbs linebacker from Alabama. He played college football at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he started his career at safety before moving to outside linebacker in his final season. Davis was signed by the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent following the 2018 NFL Draft. After initially making the team’s 53 man roster, he was eventually waived in October the following year. Thus began his bounce around the league like a rugby style punt: he was claimed by the Cleveland Browns in 2019, signed as a free agent with the Houston Texans in 2021, signed with the Las Vegas Raiders after being released a year later, was placed on the injured reserve less than a week after joining the Raiders, signed to the Browns practice squad after being released from the Raiders in December 2022, signed with the Atlanta Falcons for the 2023 season before being released in November and signing with the Carolina Panthers.
Davis is likely good depth to have at linebacker in camp and a solid veteran presence in the locker room. He is the exactly the type of fringe roster player the Panthers have often had to keep and even play recently out of necessity due to lack of overall talent on the roster. Hopefully that pattern is beginning to change, but we’ll see how things shake out in the linebackers room.
