We’re counting down the days until the Panthers kick off the 2024 season.
We’re officially 16 days away from the Carolina Panthers kicking off the 2024 NFL season against the New Orleans Saints. It will be their second consecutive road opener. Now it’s time for our annual roster countdown to highlight the players on the Panthers’ roster. Today, we’re taking a closer look at the player wearing the the No. 16 jersey— quarterback Jack Plummer.
Plummer is a 6’5”, 215 lb rookie quarterback who played college ball for the Purdue Boilermakers, the California Golden Bears, and the University of Louisville Cardinals. He signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent after the conclusion of the 2024 NFL Draft.
While Plummer did not have particularly eye-popping statistics in college, he certainly gained experience of working under a (self-imposed) revolving door of head coaches and offensive schemes through his annual entrance into the transfer portal. This is the kind of experience that could serve him well in a career with the Panthers.
His preseason statistics and tape are similarly less than noteworthy, but that is all to be taken with a large grain of salt. We have little to no knowledge of what Plummer was asked to do this preseason while working with a cast of characters who are largely unlikely to make the team’s final roster. What’s more interesting, while the team has rested starters Bryce Young and Andy Dalton, is that Plummer has been tasked with the majority of the passing work this preseason.
Quarterback Jake Luton was signed in August to split time with Plummer after Dalton suffered an injury early in training camp. Luton is an NFL journeyman who has spent time with eight different teams, including seeing some live game action, over the past four seasons.
Plummer is likely to land at least a practice squad spot and he is the likeliest person to land a roster spot if the Panthers choose to roster three quarterbacks entering the season.
How about it Panthers fans, what do you expect from Plummer this season? Will he make an appearance on the 53-man roster at any point? Scroll on down to the comments and share your thoughts with us!
