We’re counting down the days until the Panthers kick off the 2024 season.
We’re officially 1 days away from the Carolina Panthers kicking off the 2024 NFL season against the New Orleans Saints. That’s right, it’s tomorrow, y’all! It will be their second consecutive road opener. Now it’s time for our annual roster countdown to highlight the players on the Panthers’ roster. Today, we’re taking a closer look at the last player to ever wear the the No. 1 jersey in these parts—quarterback Cam Newton.
What’s left to say about Newton? The man is unequivocally the best quarterback the Panthers have ever had. Looking at the history of franchises like the Chicago Bears or the Cleveland Browns, it could be a long, long time before that statement gets challenged. His legacy seems massive and oddly ancient for how recent his career was.
Newton played for the Panthers from 2011 to 2019 and again in 2021. His last two games were in against the Saints and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in January of 2022. That’s right, he last donned a Panthers uniform just the year before last.
His legacy is also viewed from a lot of angles within the Carolina fanbase. From his quiet charity to his one-of-a-kind personality on the field, Newton displayed a more complex person than you usually see from the public face of a franchise.
So, with one day left before the Panthers play, I’m throwing it to you. Hang out in the comments and share your favorite Cam memory or talk about how his tenure as number 1 affected your fandom.
