We’re counting down the days until the Panthers kick off the 2024 season.
The Carolina Panthers are officially kicking off the 2024 NFL season today against the New Orleans Saints. That’s right, their second consecutive road opener is in just a few short hours. Now it’s time for the last day of our annual roster countdown to highlight the players on the Panthers’ roster. Today, we’re taking a closer look at the player wearing the the No. 0 jersey—tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders.
Sanders changed to the No. 0 jersey after roster cuts. He was reportedly told that he had to earn that jersey number during camp, hence why he started with the No. 85 jersey. He is now wearing Brian Burns old number while telling reporters that he is “trying to be the next Greg Olsen here.”
The following is an excerpt from the original countdown piece on Sanders by Daniel Belton 85 days ago:
The Carolina Panthers started the third day of the 2024 NFL Draft by selecting a player many mock drafts had them taking a round or two earlier: Texas tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders. Sanders was one of the many weapons on the prolific Texas offense, often overshadowed by fellow Panther Jonathon Brooks, new Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy, and new Colts wide receiver Adonai Mitchell. Still, Sanders made the most of his opportunities at Texas, earning him enough buzz to end up a top three tight end in the 2024 draft class according to some experts.
How about it Panthers fans, what do you think we’ll see out of Sanders this year? Will he earn the right to keep the No. 0 jersey and make the final day of the countdown Ja’Tavion Sanders day for years to come? Scroll on down to the comments and share your thoughts with us!
