The Carolina Panthers narrowly missed a massive upset win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. It was a bummer, but the Panthers aren’t relevant to the season. Let’s see what is.
NFC South
The Bucs have taken over the division lead
With the Falcons fading fast, it became quite apparent that the NFC South is the Bucs’ division to lose. They played around with the Raiders but still won comfortably despite some sloppy football. Meanwhile the Falcons got blown out by the Vikings and have now lost four in a row. Neither team has a particularly tough schedule down the stretch, but the Bucs seem more poised to take advantage of that.
A week late, but Taysom Hill’s future is up in the air
People forget that Taysom Hill is 34 years old. Two weeks ago, he got mashed in a pile of defenders. He’s been diagnosed with a torn ACL and placed on IR. His next season is in jeopardy given how late in the season it is, and given that he’ll be 35 by the time he’s cleared for football again, it’s fair to wonder how much football is in his future.
The rest of the NFL
The Cowboys have lost arguably their best defender this season
Besides having a great name, DeMarvion Overshown has had a breakout campaign in his first healthy season with the Cowboys. That unfortunately came to an end on Monday night. Overshown had a pile of bodies fall into the side of his leg, which completely bent the wrong way. He’s been diagnosed with a torn ACL, MCL, and PCL. That’s a huge hit to their defense, and you really feel for a guy that was playing so well after missing the season prior with a torn ACL in his other knee.
Kadarius Toney had a chance to revive his career with the Browns but decided it wasn’t for him
Toney was the 20th pick of the 2021 draft. He had one really good game with the Giants that had people thinking he was going to be another Tyreek Hill. Injuries and ineffectiveness led to him getting traded to the Chiefs, who would surely get the most out of him. He actively cost them games with drops and mistakes and was let go after two years. He’s been on the Browns practice squad this season but was called up for Sunday’s game against the Steelers. In the fourth quarter alone, he got called for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and muffed a punt. He is no longer employed.
The Bills and Rams played the game of the season
The Rams are suddenly a team no one wants to see in the playoffs after beating the Bills 44-42. The game featured all sorts of fireworks, including a blocked punt and Josh Allen posting a stat line that had never been done in the history of the NFL. He threw for three touchdowns, ran for three more, and surely won a great many people their fantasy matchup in the last week of the fantasy football regular season.
