And their enthusiasm is supported by some very generic statistics
The Super Bowl is tomorrow. The 2024 season is finally drawing to a close and that means we’re running out of opportunities to lose money to our favorite sportsbooks. Fanduel is offering every variety of bet you can imagine about the game and you can go further afield, if you dare, to find odds on every nonfootball facet of this spectacle as well. Today we’re just going to take a brief look at one of the most basic odds offered: the over/under.
Simply put, this bet states a point total and you, the enterprising fan, gets to bet if you think the games’ total will be over or under that total. The current total at Fanduel Sportsbook is 48.5. 56% of respondents to SB Nation’s Reacts poll think that is a little light.
Defense is not expected to be a hallmark of the ultimate game of the season, as both teams have ramped up their scoring in the playoffs. The Philadelphia Eagles, who averaged 27 points per game in the regular season, jumped to averaging 35 points per game in their three playoffs game. That was helped by their record-setting 55 point performance against the Washington Commanders.
The Kansas City Chiefs averaged 19 points per game in the regular season before averaging 27.5 points across their two playoff games. They clearly know how to play to the level of their competition.
Regular season averages, with no regards to defense, would suggest a 46 point game and a comfortable Eagles win. Post season averages would bump that point total to 63 points and a more narrow victory for Philly. Will this contest be a continued tour de force for these offenses or more of a return to their regularly rocky form? We’ll find out tomorrow night.
