The 2024 season did not go according to plan for wide receiver Marquise Brown, and the Kanas City Chiefs could leave the team after one forgettable season. Signed to replace an ineffective Marquez Valdes-Scantling in the offense, Brown suffered a preseason shoulder injury that sidelined him for most of the regular season. While he returned for the postseason, he was nothing more than an afterthought.
Following their blowout Super Bowl loss, the Chiefs now risk losing several big-name free agents to the open market. According to ESPN’s Bill Barnwell, the Chiefs could let Marquise Brown walk as a free agent and prioritize the offensive line.
“…after their ugly loss in the Super Bowl, General Manager Brett Veach might want to devote more resourcdes to the offensive line and keeping star guard Trey Smith.”
Marquise Brown joined the Chiefs on a one-year, $7 million contract, and he will probably receive another low deal in 2025. However, several teams should have interest in the former first-round pick, and these five organizations could pursue the impending free agent when the league year officially begins.
Chiefs Could Lose Marquise Brown – 5 Suitors Interested
New England Patriots
The New England Patriots need help at just about every position, and they can’t address all their needs in one offseason. With this in mind, they’ll need to prioritize, and this rebuild should begin with making Drake Maye as comfortable as possible. Marquise Brown cannot singlehandedly fix this offense, but the Chiefs speedster makes him an ideal match with Maye’s rocket arm and elite downfield precision.
Washington Commanders
The Washington Commanders made it to the NFC Championship Game with a rookie Jayden Daniels leading a team that went 4-13 one season prior. The sky is the limit for this organization, especially considering they have over $75 million in cap space. Playoff star Dyami Brown is an impending free agent, and the Commanders could upgrade their deep threat by stealing Marquise Brown from the Chiefs.
Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers have three promising yet unproven weapons in Xavier Legette, Jalen Coker, and tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders. What they don’t have, however, is a proven deep threat who can scare defenses with vertical speed. Marquise Brown can add an explosive element to this offense, and his skillset should perfectly complement the existing talent in the wide receiver room. If Bryce Young continues to develop, this team could compete in a weak NFC South next year.
Las Vegas Raiders
The Las Vegas Raiders have their work cut out for them. Pete Carroll is an above-average head coach with an impressive track record, but this team lacks the talent to compete in one of the most competitive divisions in football. Fortunately, the team has plenty of cap space and should be able to improve the roster. Carroll operated a run-heavy offense with Seattle but always had receivers capable of making big plays on the outside. Marquise Brown possesses elite deep speed and should blow past safeties overplaying the run, and stealing him from a hated division rival in the Chiefs only makes it sweeter.
New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints don’t have the money to spend big on free agents. With this in mind, Kellen Moore’s club could buy low on a talented receiver who struggled to stay on the field. While Brown’s skillset is a little redundant with Rashid Shaheed on the roster, there’s no such thing as too many good deep threats.
