Miami Dolphins journeyman running back Raheem Mostert is a probable cut candidate this offseason. According to Pro Football Network, they believe the Dolphins will release Mostert since they need enough salary cap to make moves. Currently, the team has -$16 million so many should expect the Dolphins to clean house this offseason so they can at least relieve some type of money. However, the running back was probably never going to make an impact in Miami again due to the emergence of De’Von Achane and Jaylen Wright on the roster.
The Dolphins will need to sign at least one backup halfback option, but it might not be Mostert. Originally selected in 2015 as an undrafted rookie free agent, the veteran has been a journeyman for the majority of his career. At age 32, he doesn’t have much left to give for a roster, so it might be smarter for him to reach out to contenders for a chance at a Super Bowl. However, he’ll probably have some type of interest from teams, as he could be a viable backup option.
While he never was able to capture full-form with any of the teams like the Dolphins, Ravens, Bears or most notably 49ers, Mostert probably has one more opportunity before he decides to retire.

Backing Up Derrick Henry
The Baltimore Ravens are in good hands with probably one of the best running backs in the league out of Derrick Henry. However, he’s due for a new contract after the 2025 season and the chances of the team extending him are high. While they found their main starter, they could use some depth support to assist Henry to keep him fresh for every postseason. Henry was healthy for the first time in one full season in a long time, but the depth behind him remains a concern.
Keaton Mitchell came back to the team from his injury, but he didn’t do much to intrigue the organization he couldn’t make much of an impact. Meanwhile, Justice Hill is viable, but he’s more of a dump-off type of running back that quarterback Lamar Jackson uses in screen-play situations. Mostert is past his prime and will never be the same. However, he could easily carve out a role in this offense. He doesn’t need to be the superstar out there and light up the field, but be a chain-mover.
Some Life in Carolina?
Raheem Mostert could take advantage of the situation with the Carolina Panthers. The offense may be looking for a new wide receiver for quarterback Bryce Young since they have faith in him again. No one is taking Chuba Hubbard’s starting role after the recent extension he earned midseason last year. However, the team could use solid depth since they will more than likely release veteran Miles Sanders. The Panthers continue to navigate the bad news as they will be without Jonathon Brooks for a second season in a row since being drafted.
The team could figure out a way to sign Mostert to fit into their running scheme and help Hubbard with the weight on his shoulders. Perhaps, this could be a perfect opportunity to see his full potential from a team that will be desperate for a running back.
