In the modern NFL, rebuilds take 2-3 years, not 5-6 like they did in the old days. With that sense of urgency to win nowadays, teams are more willing than ever to move off a QB, no matter how much they invested around him, let alone draft him. After an up-and-down rookie season, with just two wins to his name, that’s where Bryce Young finds himself in the mind of many Panther fans, who want to see drastic improvement from the former #1 overall pick, or else they desire the franchise to go in a different direction. How likely is that though? Only time will tell.

That topic headlined the second hour of the Wes & Walker Show earlier today on WFNZ, a reality that neither thought was possible, after being such believers in Bryce coming out of Alabama. While they both pointed out that Dan Morgan and the front office have done a lot this off-season to put Bryce in the best position to succeed, it’s ultimately up to the player to do so. Unlike his rookie season though, Bryce will protected by a better offensive line, headlined by the addition of Robert Hunt, and will have more weapons at his disposal, in Diontae Johnson, whom Carolina traded for, and Xavier Legette, their 2024 first-round pick. More importantly than any on-field acquisition, Young will be coached by someone with a track record of turning QBs careers around, and more importantly, believes in him, and voices that belief publicly, more than Frank Reich ever thought of doing last season. And as Wes & Walker pointed out, all that points towards Young having the type of season to validate Carolina drafting him #1 overall, and if he doesn’t meet the expectations, it’ll be more than justified for the Panthers to begin their search for a QB in 2025.
You can listen to the Wes & Walker Show (Charlotte’s #1 midday show), every day from 12-3 PM, on Sports Radio 92.7 WFNZ, and the WFNZ app.
