The Charlotte Hornets have traded center Nick Richards to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for guard Josh Okogie and three future second-round draft picks, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The Hornets will also send a future second-round pick to Phoenix as part of the deal.
Richards, who was drafted in the second round of the 2020 NBA Draft out of Kentucky, has been a key rotational player for Charlotte. He is averaging 8.9 points and 7.5 rebounds per game this season. His 65% field goal percentage over the last four seasons ranks fifth-best in the league.
In return, the Hornets acquire Okogie, a versatile defensive guard who has spent the past two seasons in Phoenix. Okogie, known for his perimeter defense and athleticism, adds depth to Charlotte’s backcourt. The three future second-round picks provide the Hornets with valuable assets for future roster moves and development.
Richards was in the second year of a three-year, $15 million contract.
