CHARLOTTE, N.C. (CHARLOTTE SPORTS LIVE) — A storied Charlotte high school football program now has a former Carolina Panther leading the way.
Julius Chambers High announced Captain Munnerlyn is its new football coach during a press conference Friday. He previously was an assistant under coach Chris James at Myers Park.
Munnerlyn, a former cornerback, played seven years for the Panthers over two stints, ending in 2018. Carolina drafted him out of South Carolina in 2009.
Chambers has developed into a football power over the last decade. The Cougars, who compete in the rigorous Queen City 4A conference, won 4AA state championships in 2019 and spring 2021. They also reached the title game in the 2018 and fall 2021 seasons.
The team took a step back in 2024, going just 5-5 under head coach Brandon Wiggins. Wiggins stepped down after three years with the Cougars.
