GAFFNEY, S.C. (WSPA) — Former NFL wide receiver and Carolina Panthers assistant has been named the new head football coach at Limestone’s University football team.
For the past two seasons, Jerricho Cotchery has served as Limestone’s assistant head coach and wide receivers coach at the Saints.
From 2022-2023, Division II Limestone recorded a collective South Atlantic Conference record of 15-3 and was crowned co-champions of the Piedmont Division in both seasons.
Cotchery is replacing former Limestone head coach Mike Furrey who has stepped down after two years directing the Saints to pursue other opportunities.
Furrey spoke to the Saints players during a team meeting this morning, and that was followed by the announcement that Cotchery is the new head coach at Limestone.
“We are extremely excited to have Jerricho as our new head football coach,” said Limestone’s Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Hailey Martin. “He is so well-liked and respected by our student-athletes and coaches.
Cotchery played 12 years in the NFL, and was with the Panthers for his final two seasons, 2014 and 2015. He had 39 catches for 485 yards in Carolina’s Super Bowl year of 2015.
In college, the Alabama native was one of the most productive receivers in Atlantic Coast Conference history, playing for N.C. State from 2000 to 2003 alongside quarterback Philip Rivers.
