(QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Festival season is officially upon us around Charlotte, as the first day of fall is just over a week away.
There are several options for family – or scary – fun this weekend, plus major sporting events at Bank of America Stadium. Here are some of the things to do around the Queen City:
Friday, Sept. 13
Cabarrus County Fair
4-11 p.m. Friday, 1-11 p.m. Saturday
4759 N.C. 49 N., Concord
It’s the final weekend for the Cabarrus County Fair, known as the “Land of Sugar and Smiles,” where families can take part in rides, games, educational events, animal exhibits and more.
Opening Night of SCarowinds
6 p.m.
Carowinds’ kicks off its annual Halloween-themed amusements, as visitors will confront their darkest fears and encounter monsters while exploring Carowinds’ four “scare zones,” five mazes, and four ominous shows. This is the first year that a separate ticket is not required if one is purchased during the day.
Saturday, Sept. 14
Octoberfest at Carowinds
11 a.m. to 7 pm.
Carowinds’ brings the German tradition to its lineup of fall events, offering authentic German food, beverages like Hofbräu München beer, music and family-friendly entertainment. Plus, the park’s most popular rides are open. The festival runs Saturdays and Sundays through Nov. 2.
Roaring Riot Kickoff Jam
2-10 p.m.
NoDa Brewing Company
Ahead of the Panthers’ home opener on Sunday, the fan club’s Kickoff Jam features a full day of live music including Moon Taxi and The Nude Party, as well Charlotte locals Simplified, Cutty Cutright and Deaf Andrews. Panthers legends in attendance include Jonathan Stewart, Captain Munnerlyn, Mike Rucker and Chuba Hubbard. Tickets start at $39.
Davidson Fall Arts Festival
4-8 p.m.
Main Street, Downtown Davidson
The annual festival will feature more than 50 local artists set up in historic downtown Davidson. In addition to the fine art, attendees will be able to purchase handmade gifts, food at local restaurants, and live music. The Blue Dogs Trio will perform on the Town Green.
Mooresville Bands Brews & BBQ Festival
4-9 p.m.
North Church Street, Downtown Mooresville
The second annual event offers BBQ crafted by local culinary masters from more than 25 regional BBQ food trucks. The festival also will feature a Family Fun Zone, complete with amusement rides, games, and activities; plus, a lineup of regional bands, culminating with a performance by Jo Dee Messina.
Sunday, Sept. 15
Panthers vs. LA Chargers
1 p.m.
Bank of American Stadium
The Panthers make their home debut with new head coach Dave Canales. They take on QB Justin Herbert and the Chargers, coached by former Michigan coach John Harbaugh.
Megan Trainor Concert
6:30 p.m.
PNC Music Pavilion
Trainor is visiting Charlotte for her first tour in seven years. The Grammy Award winner known for “Lips Are Movin” and “Made You Look” is on her “Timeless Tour.”
