You know things have reached rock bottom with an NFL franchise when the fans start organizing to beg the owner of the team to sell. But that’s what’s happening down in Charlotte, North Carolina.
A petition on Change.org petition entitled “Force David Tepper to Sell the Carolina Panthers” is going viral with over 4,400 signatures as of writing. The petition, started by user Joey Blethen, lists several grievances against Tepper and calls for better leadership.
“Simply put his ownership tenure has been an embarrassment to this franchise and the Carolina Panthers Fans deserve better leadership,” the petition concludes.
The petition comes on the heels of a rather embarrassing incident from Tepper that saw him fined $300,000 for throwing something at an opposing fan.
David Tepper’s six-year tenure with the Carolina Panthers has been an underwhelming one to be sure. But the NFL won’t compel one of its owners to sell just for underachieving and displaying some inappropriate behavior. If they did, the league would have parted ways with about a quarter of the league.
The only way the Panthers fanbase will be getting Tepper to sell will be if someone comes to him with a financial offer he can’t refuse.
They might want to start saving some money.
