Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper recently got into a heated exchange with a fan that resulted in him throwing a drink at them. The NFL has since levied its punishment against him – and most fans are certain it wasn’t stiff enough.
According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the NFL has fined Tepper $300,000 for his conduct in the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars this past Sunday. In a statement, the NFL reiterated that “all NFL personnel” must conduct themselves favorably towards fans.
“The National Football League today fined Carolina Panthers’ chairman David Tepper $300,000 for his unacceptable conduct in Jacksonville during Sunday’s game, the league announced. “All NFL personnel are expected to conduct themselves at all times in ways that respect our fans and favorably reflect on their team and the NFL,” the league said in a statement,” Pelissero wrote.
Fans quickly pointed out that Tepper is a multi-billionaire, and that fining him $300,000 is effectively a slap on the wrist.
“This like fining me 1 dollar,” one user replied.
“That’s like 10 cents to him it should have been more,” wrote another.
“This is nothing! Suspend him indefinitely. That’ll actually have an impact,” a third wrote.
Do you think the punishment was appropriate?
