Welcome to Monday Night Football
The Atlanta Falcons are set to take on the Philadelphia Eagles tonight on ESPN’s Monday Night Football at 8:15 ET. It will be a fascinating match up between a team that is perennially attempting to be too big for its britches and a team that was on the edge of a dynasty after multiple recent Super Bowl appearances,
The Eagles have been through multiple head coaches and multiple quarterbacks trying to match the level of what has been otherwise stellar roster construction. Their two Super Bowl appearances under two different head coaches and with two different quarterbacks since the Carolina Panthers last sniffed the playoffs show what good process can earn a team when opposed to the haphazard slinging of brass balls all over a room.
Then, of course, you have the Falcons. Their Week 1 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers was in no small part due to playing Kirk Cousins before he was ready—despite what they may say publicly—to come back from his 2023 achilles tear. Will he be ready in Week 2?
As always in our brave new world of expansive sports gambling, it is now easier to bet on games than to watch them. You can catch current odds on all NFL games for Week 1 here on FanDuel.
As for the game tonight, the edge has to go to the, uh, better team. Philadelphia eked out a win against the Green Bay Packers in Brazil last week, but I’m expecting a stronger effort at home, with another week of experience under each of their new coordinators, and against inferior competition. That’s why I’m picking the Philadelphia Eagles to win tonight.
As always, use this space to talk about the action as it unfolds.
You know the drill.
This is now an open thread!
