The 2024-25 NBA season is almost upon us, but before the first tipoff, a new docuseries will give us an intimate first-hand account of last year’s exciting NBA Playoff action from the players involved.
Variety exclusively reports that ESPN has picked up Clutch: The NBA Playoffs, an eight-part docuseries that will chronicle the 2023-24 NBA Playoffs with personal accounts of the intense playoff action from Zion Williamson, Tyrese Maxey, Jalen Brunson, Tyrese Haliburton, P.J. Washington, and last year’s NBA Finals MVP, Jaylen Brown.
The website reports that the ESPN Original series premieres Oct. 7 on ESPN2 at 11:30 pm ET and will premiere on ESPN+ the following day.
“The NBA Playoffs are defined by competition and drama, and with ‘Clutch,’ we’re excited to show fans a new side of an unforgettable post-season,” vice president of production for ESPN Originals, Lindsay Rovegno, said. “This series provides a unique perspective on some of the most compelling players in the game, showcasing their drive, resilience, and passion as they chase a championship. It’s about more than basketball – it’s about legacy, and we’re proud to tell these stories in a way we know viewers will love.”
The first episode of the series is titled “Changing of the Guard” and will focus on the NBA’s new crop of superstars, like Williamson and De’Aaron Fox, and coming for the crowns of “aging” superstars like LeBron James and Steph Curry.
The episode’s logline reads, “In high-stakes play-in games, Zion challenges LeBron, while Fox takes on the Warriors dynasty as he looks to create his own legacy in nearby Sacramento. Can these two players meet the standard set by their heroes?”
