WES & WALKER INTERVIEW WITH DABABY
Charlotte’s own DaBaby made a pit stop at WFNZ to talk about the first annual Billion Dollar Baby Birthday Bash and, of course, to talk about the Hornets, Panthers, and the city’s underdog mentality.
Set to take over Spectrum Center on Wednesday, January 22nd, the Birthday Bash is bringing serious star power to the Queen City. The lineup features 50 Cent, Sexyy Red, Boosie, Moneybagg Yo, Toosii, Skilla Baby, Rob 49, BigXThaPlug, YTB Fatt, Stunna 4 Vegas, Trap Dickey, and more—all hosted by Gillie and Wallo.
With Wes and Walker being die-hard music fans, they had to ask DaBaby what it means to bring an event of this scale to Charlotte. For the Grammy-nominated rapper, it’s about giving the city the shine it deserves.
“I’ve never really had my official homecoming show,” DaBaby shared. “For me, I’ve never really had a chance to come back and do it the way I’d want—on the level I see in other major markets. This is something I’ve always wanted for Charlotte.”
Charlotte has long been a city with potential but hasn’t always gotten national recognition, whether in music or sports. As a fellow Queen City native, Wes—who attended Vance High School (now Julius Chambers) with DaBaby—brought up how Charlotte’s teams often embrace the underdog mentality. He asked how much of that mindset fuels DaBaby in the rap game.
“I’m from Charlotte, NC. I’m used to the chips being stacked high, used to the odds being against me. I had to weather that storm before,” DaBaby said.
He’s determined to put Charlotte on the map, not just in hip-hop but in the sports world too. “People always ask, ‘Why not Charlotte?’ Bringing this culture back to the city is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. We’re also building a great relationship with the Carolina Panthers, so expect a lot of big things coming with DaBaby and the Panthers as well.”
Before leaving, DaBaby dropped an exclusive on Wes and Walker—new music is on the way, and big announcements are coming soon. And what can you expect from the Birthday Bash? Well…
Let DaBaby tell you… “I want people to know about the birthday bash is that if you are not in attendance, you’ll be upset with yourself for close to 365 days until the next one. So you might want to go ahead and get your ticket and make sure you’re in attendance. It’s going to be a night to remember. It’s going to be the biggest party that has ever taken place in the city of Charlotte, NC”
