Let’s take a closer look at one of the prospects the Panthers could select in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Since it’s never too early to look forward to the NFL Draft, this weekly series will take a closer look at some of the prospects the Carolina Panthers could select in the 2025 iteration of the Draft. In this series, we’ll only be looking at prospects the Panthers could seriously consider. For example, we won’t be looking at any of the top quarterback prospects in the hope that the team won’t be in the market for a franchise guy come April. This week, our profile will focus on Texas A&M EDGE Nic Scourton.
At 6’4”, 280 pounds, Scourton has a good blend of upper body and lower body power. He burst onto the scene in 2023 at Purdue, where he notched 10 sacks. His notoriety as a pass rusher led him to being a highly sought after transfer. He eventually chose Texas A&M as his new destination. Most of his snaps so far have been outside the tackle, but he has slid inside on a few occasions. This has led to many pundits believing he could also provide versatility as an interior lineman (or an end in a 3-4) in NASCAR packages. He has strong hands that allow him to control opposing lineman in the run game and stay in his gap. He has also flashed the ability to shoot the gap and make plays in the backfield regardless of where he lines up.
Scourton mostly relies on converting speed to power when rushing the passer. This works well in college, but NFL tackles are on a different level when it comes to strength. He’ll occasionally mix in a pretty good spin move to throw lineman off. Still, he definitely needs to work on consistently positioning himself and setting lineman up for counter moves if he is going to succeed at the next level. Overall, Scourton’s combination of size, strength, and athleticism allows him to be versatile against the run and make waves as a pass rusher off the edge and inside through the B and C gaps. With the Panthers’ pass rush issues continuing to be put on display, Scourton is definitely a player the Panthers could be looking at early on in the 2025 NFL Draft.
If the Panthers do find themselves in position to take Starks in the 2025 Draft, would you want the team to take him? Sound off in the comments below!
