NFL superstar defensive end Trey Hendrickson is not happy about the contract negotiations and could demand a trade before the draft. According to an ESPN source, Hendrickson had some words to say in response to what Bengals’ executive Vice President Katie Blackburn had said. Blackburn said, “It’s on him to be happy,” which is a clear signal that the team will likely move on from him rather than give him the deal he wants. At this rate, Hendrickson isn’t looking for the top contract above Myles Garrett or Maxx Crosby.
The star pass rusher got the chance to express his displeasure on the Pat McAfee Show again after appearing on the show months ago at the beginning of the offseason. There still hasn’t been any type of communication between Hendrickson and the Bengals, which comes after the team granted him permission to seek a trade. It’s a frustrating time for the defensive star who is coming off his best season, leading the NFL in sacks and named to All-Pro team for the first time in his career. Hendrickson gives his props to Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase for their new massive deals, but he wants to know if the Bengals are willing to put on queue for at least a talk in negotiations.
This hasn’t been happening yet for Hendrickson, so it should be no surprise if he winds up demanding a trade as soon as possible. It will get harder for the Bengals the longer they wait, so it might be best to trade him to these two teams this offseason.
Latest NFL Superstar Trey Hendrickson Comments Could Trigger a Trade Imminently – Panthers, Saints Top Fits
Rebuilding Carolina’s Defense
It was about building a new offense for quarterback Bryce Young and they finally found a few capable playmakers to make something for the passing attack. Now, the Panthers are using this offseason to build a ferocious defense to help Young stay on the field to give him several opportunities to lead the team. Free-agent signee Tershawn Wharton is a solid step towards that, especially for Derrick Brown’s return, who was out for the majority of the 2024 campaign. Hendrickson is a perfect man to fit into this defense to create some much-needed firepower for the Panthers.
Last season, the team had one of the worst defenses in the league, and it made it impossible for Young to cut down the lead in most matchups. Brown was the lone man in the pass rusher last year, other than Jadeveon Clowney, so Hendrickson could potentially change the culture in Carolina.
Pinching More Pennies
Meanwhile, general manager Mickey Loomis has refused to rebuild ever since Drew Brees retired in 2020. The Saints must build something new, at least now that head coach Kellen Moore is taking over. Last season, the team had an average defense, but it was enough for the Saints to find a way to extend Chase Young. Even though they’re negative in cap space, they might be able to find a way to trade for Hendrickson and give him a history-making contract.
It might not be the ideal landing spot for Hendrickson, but it gives him long-term stability and a chance for Young to produce more sacks next season alongside DeMario Davis as well.
