CHARLOTTE, N.C (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Mandatory mini-camp for the Carolina Panthers kicked off Tuesday.
Everyone was accounted for including kicker Eddy Piñeiro, who was not at the Organized Team Activities (OTA) earlier in the month. Piñeiro did not do any kicking but officials say it was due to conditioning as part of his process for this summer.
DJ Johnson was seen being taken off the field due to an apparent right knee injury. Coach Dave Canales tells Queen City News that Johnson will undergo an MRI.
Coach Canales says that they don’t plan to rely heavily on Linebacker Jadeveon Clowney, but instead focus more on a system-based defense instead of a player-led one.
“The way that we see it is if we teach good football, if our exs and ohs are right, when we add these premier players into the mix it just really accentuates all of it,” Canales says.
Canales also tells us that Tuesday’s practice was one of Bryce Young’s best days yet on the field. He notes Young’s comfortability on offense was starting to show as the Panthers head into their second, and final day of mini-camp.
There are just 58 days left until the Panther’s first pre-season game.
