How did the Panthers do in fantasy football? Will those trends continue?
The Carolina Panthers allegedly played a professional football game against the Washington Commanders in Week 7 of the NFL season. Let’s take a look back at how individual Panthers players fared and if they are worth keeping moving forward. For these articles, I will be using fantasy totals in an ESPN Fantasy league I am part of, so your numbers might have been slightly different.
Quarterback
Andy Dalton
Andy Dalton continued to struggle with ball security, throwing a pick-six to end a promising opening drive. He ended up with 0.02 fantasy points on the day, as the Panthers offense as a whole could not recapture the momentum from the beginning of that initial drive. Dalton was also involved in a car accident this week and is being monitored by the team’s health staff. Even if he plays on Sunday, he’s still not worth a roster spot due to his inconsistency.
Running Backs
Chuba Hubbard
Against the Commanders, Chuba Hubbard had his “worst” fantasy game since Week 1 and still managed 11.2 points. His yards per carry was way down, but he did manage to find the end zone to salvage a decent fantasy performance. He still only had 17 carries, so the hope moving forward is to get that number over 20. If that eventually happens, Chuba becomes one of the better fantasy running back options in the league.
Jonathon Brooks
Brooks is in his second week of practice and just needs to back into game shape. He and Coach Canales have seemed very optimistic about him making his NFL debut soon. The hope would be that Brooks takes most of Miles Sanders’ carries, which should make the offense better overall. With Canales’ use of the running game leaving a lot to be desired, Brooks needs to stay on IR in most leagues until he shows what he can do consistently. If you have another player you’d like to stash on IR instead (Nico Collins, for example), waiving Brooks would not be a terrible way to go.
Wide Receivers
Diontae Johnson
Diontae, along with the rest of the passing offense, was near nonexistent against Washington. He was only targeted three times, which is not good enough. Whether that was a quarterback issue or a play call issue, it needs to be fixed ASAP. His only catch went for 17 yards, and he managed a measly 2.7 fantasy points. Johnson is still a quality WR2/WR3 option in fantasy because of his boom potential.
Xavier Legette
This week was a big step back for the rookie wide out. He only garnered three targets, and his two catches went for a grand total of three yards (2.9 fantasy points). If you’re desperate for production at the WR position, Legette might be an option depending on the opponent. Denver is not the opponent for that, though.
Jalen Coker
One thing about Coker so far is that he has caught every pass thrown his way in the last three games. The downside is he only got one target against the Commanders. His catch went for 10 yards, so he finished with 2.0 fantasy points. He has shown flashes and has yet to hit paydirt, so his best fantasy production is ahead of him. He might be worth stashing if you have the depth for it.
