CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The Carolina Panthers donated a mini-version of their “Keep Pounding” drum to Atrium Health Levine’s Cancer Proton & Advanced Radiation Center.
The unveiling of the drum happened on Monday, Jan. 27 with former NFL player and NASCAR pit crew member Shannon Myers, along with Sir Purr, the Panther’s mascot. Myers is a current patient at the Proton & Advanced Radiation Center who was diagnosed with head and neck cancer in September 2024.
In partnership with Atrium Health, the Panthers have invested in cancer research efforts and patient support programs through the Keep Pounding campaign.

The drum is a smaller version of the one used on game day and is special to the hospital. Patients get to pound it at milestone moments during their treatments. This will be the first drum used in a facility for both adult and pediatric patients and the third drum donated by the team to Atrium.
Last Fall, the team dedicated the drum to Atrium Health Levine Children’s in memory of Rosewell Hynson who passed away following a battle with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and highly aggressive form of soft tissue cancer.
