Former NFL quarterback Cam Newton has had a lot to say about some of the stars of today’s NFL. But turnabout is fair play and one Hall of Fame player decided to unload on Newton’s own NFL career.
In a recent interview, Hall of Fame defensive lineman Warren Sapp ripped Newton, declaring that he was a “glorified running back” who “got lucky” by winning the NFL MVP award in 2015 but otherwise being an average passer at best.
“If you wasn’t that guy, let’s not get on these podcasts talking like you was THAT guy… Cam, you were a glorified running back, son,” Sapp said.
The comment was made in response to a harsh critique that Newton had for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy. Newton said that Purdy was only the 10th best player on the team.
Warren Sapp COOKS Cam Newton for his latest comments about Brock Purdy:
“Cam is just being an ass. I don’t know why but he is. Brock Purdy did a milk check at the end of that game. Did you see it when he took off for a first down? Good ol milk check…

Cam Newton has long been panned for his passing ability. His turnover numbers were frustratingly high and he had only three seasons where he posted a winning record.
But Warren Sapp might be going a little too far by calling Newton a “glorified running back.” You’d have to go back generations to find a running back who had eight straight seasons of at least 18 passing touchdowns.
There are many starters in the NFL today who can’t throw for 18 touchdowns if their jobs depend on it (yet still keep their jobs).
Do you agree with Sapp?
