We bring you part two of our holiday mailbag, answering your questions and highlighting some comments!
Hello CSR! Welcome to Brian Answers, part two of our weekly Panthers fan mailbag for everyone! We were a little light on the questions this week, but I’ll chock that up to the holidays and spending time with your families. Still, I loved the participation we got and the responses to my topic of the week, which was “what do you want for the holidays”!
To recap, this is our weekly mailbag, where we respond to questions in the comments earlier in the week of “Brian Asks”. Let’s dive in!
plancos: My questions: 1) Who was the most pleasant surpise(s) this season? 2) Who are your top FA targets, and 3) What are the odds that we don’t mess up the draft with stupid trades that waste picks?
- Jalen Coker is an obvious choice, as The Anomaly managed to survive the usual preseason undrafted receiver hype without following through in real game action. On defense, I would go with EDGE DJ Wonnum and CB Mike Jackson. Wonnum took awhile to get onto the field as he dealt with various health issues (that were pretty scary!) before he took the field. He now leads the team in sacks despite only getting in about halfway through the season. Mike Jackson has made plays when called up on and turned into a reliable starter opposite Jaycee Horn.
- There’s a lot of players that could help the Panthers coming up in free agency. As far as WR Tee Higgins is going to be the prize in free agency for some team, though Chris Godwin would be a nice consolation prize as well. I’d be a fan of going after DB Jevon Holland to help out the back end, even if he won’t be cheap. There’s some solid EDGE players out there in Khalil Mack, Josh Sweat, and Haason Reddick if the Panthers feel the need to spend in free agency in that position.
- Have faith friend, so far the Panthers have a lot of draft capital where last time around they didn’t have a first round pick, and a ton more needs.
GooseCreek: With the Panthers winning their way deeper into the NFL Draft, the team’s first options on the draft board may be gone. That being the case, should Tetairoa McMillan (WR – Arizona) be viewed as a viable alternative? I could think of a lot worse things other than having a Mike Evans-esque receiver on the Carolina roster for the next 10 years.
I wouldn’t hate this selection at all. While the defense is the obvious place to invest resources, currently the Panthers wide receiver group has some promising young talent but no clear WR1. Adam Thielen likely should come back next season, but may be released for cap reasons. Adding a top end WR talent to compliment Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker would make a lot of sense if they can’t find one in free agency.
panthers2112: Is Die Hard a Christmas movie?
Yes. Are we talking about it every holiday season? That should answer your question. Debate SILENCED.
DannyLimes: What was your best christmas present this year Brian?
There’s a little backstory here, so bare with me. I received an email stating I was getting a Fedex from Target in Virginia earlier this month. I had not ordered anything around that time, let alone from Target. I asked a coworker if he received said email, as the only thing I could think of was a company shirt we both requested a day or so before I got the email. They did not receive the email and warned me of holiday scams, as there’s a lot of emails like that going around.
A few days later, I receive a package around the size of a mini-fridge. Definitely not what I was expecting if this was a scam. I open the package, and low and behold it is a giant Godzilla figure from “Godzilla X Kong”. I am a bit confused, until I see the note with it. “Merry Christmas! -Mom and Dad”.
My mother said she saw it and thought I would love it and it reminded her of my childhood, as I grew up a huge Godzilla fan. Needless to say I did love it. Thanks mom!
And now, we’ll highlight some of the best answers from the prompt of the week!
Revshawn: All I want for Christmas is a good girl.
Instead you got 2 points from CJ Stroud.
KeepPounding88: All I want for Christmas is an edge-rusher, a free safety, a WR1, and a franchise QB.
Bryce Young is doing a great job of trying to be one of those.
MarloBarksdale99: Grass, I need a grass field so the team can be comfortable. That is my wish, Mrs. and Mr. Tepper.
I am definitely down for grass fields again.
Shifty Fish: I want them to pick someone I actually want in the draft for the first time since Shaq Thompson.
They have plenty of draft picks, so maybe they will!
Bull123: Short term wish
Beat Atlanta last game of the season at their place and knock them out of the playoffs
That would be a great way to cap off what has been a fun season despite the win/loss totals.
That’s all Panthers fans! Join me next week for another edition of the mailbag. Happy Holidays, and KEEP POUNDING!
