We bring you one last batch of answers to your questions before Draft week!
Hello CSR! Welcome to Brian Answers, part two of your weekly Panthers fan mailbag for everyone! Its Good Friday and Easter weekend, but I didn’t forget about all of you. With one last week before we dive head on into Draft coverage, I spun up some answers to all YOUR questions. Let’s dive right in!
Coach_K: Jalon Walker not invited to the Green Room next week. Haven’t seen a mention of him declining. Is that a sign we’re not getting him?
I don’t recall seeing anything about him not getting an invite. I always enjoy the superstitions regarding the Draft, especially since there’s so much turnover in scouting staff and coaching staffs during these supposed trends. Walker might be a Panther, whether or not he attended the Draft won’t really impact that.
KeepPounding88: What are the chances we pass on Jalon Walker and trade down with a team who isn’t moving up for Sanders?
50/50. I don’t think Walker will have as much to do with the decision as the offer they receive in return to trade down.
Snarky_Comet: Dcangio09 had a good question regarding XL last post, where he asked about what an XL successful season looked like. Similarly:
What would a successful Jalen Coker sophomore season look like?
I would say gimme 7-800 yards and 5 TDs as the Panthers WR3/WR 2B and that’s a very successful season, if Coker is to progress into a mainstay as a Panthers starting WR. There’s always a chance he’ll run into a 2nd year wall, or find himself not getting as many snaps if the Panthers were to take a WR high in the Draft.
MarloBarksdale99: If The Aints drafted Shedeur, which QB do you think will give us the most problems in the future?
Mayfield
Penix Jr.
Sanders?
Right now I would say Michael Penix Jr. I think that duel with Bryce Young to end the 2024 season perfectly previewed what exactly the rest of the NFC South has to worry about going forward. Mayfield has probably hit his ceiling as a player and Sanders will need to navigate a very difficult Saints roster situation early in his career.
bolshy: Many of us still don’t know if Bryce is the guy or not. What has Bryce been doing this offseason to get better?
Push-ups, sit-ups, plenty of juice, and winning a few Fortnite Battle Royals to test his mental endurance.
Waldropa: As a franchise, we seem to struggle with 5th round picks. Since we have three of them this year, would you rather we use them to try and trade up, or potentially trade for someone like Michael Mayer?
5th round picks aren’t exactly ammunition where you expect a starter caliber players, so I’d say most franchises struggle with them. I think using them to navigate the draft makes a lot of sense, trading them straight up for a player I think would have happened already if they were going to do it.
plancos: What is he perfect Easter lunch/dinner?
Starter
Main
Sides
Dessert
Deviled Eggs
Ham and/or Lamb
Mashed potaotes
Carrot Cake
WFU: Texas Pete or Tabasco?
I’m definitely a Tabasco guy but it depends on the dish. Personal favorite: Dill Pickle Hot Sauce.
magicman56: This one is way out of the box. Haven’t heard anything on this, but is it possible we take an OT at 8? Motion is not getting any younger and both Banks and Campbell are consistently rated high. I highly doubt it but if they stay at 8 and think an OT is BPA, it would certainly be a surprise move.
Fellow staff writer Eric Buck has been pounding the table for Armand Membou at 8. And while it makes me want to drive to Canada and strangle him, it does make some sense. Taylor Moton is on the last year of his contract, and Ikem Ekwonu is by no means a shoe in as the franchise left tackle yet. I think his struggles have been overblown by fans and the media, but if Moton doesn’t return in 2026 or the Panthers do not have a replacement plan, the tackle position could as a whole be considered a question mark. So I get the thinking, though I think they’ll go defense or a skill position on offense first.
ericbuck: What’s your ideal menu for Draft Night?
Do you go full appetizer spread or just keep it simple with a pizza or something?
I don’t eat during Draft Night. I save my food decision for what I think of the first pick. Sometimes I simply go to bed crying.
Jesse_Pinkman: What would it take for the Panthers to trade for Jalen Ramsey? Do you think it would be worth it anyway or would he want to play free safety for the team in that case?
It would take the Panthers to get him on a steep discount in my opinion. After spending a lot of money on the CB position by giving Jaycee Horn a deserved extension and bringing back Mike Jackson, adding Jalen Ramsey would add more money allocation to that particular position. While this by no means is me saying that position is set in stone and ready to go, I think they’ll be better off drafting to help fill that position and potentially using cap space elsewhere to address things.
GooseCreek: With Adam Thielen getting a little long in the tooth, who would be more impactful in keeping drives alive, Tyler Warren or Tetairoa McMillan?
Difficult choice here, but I’d probably say T Mac just because the offense was really only missing that difference maker WR1 last season as far as the passing game was concerned. I think they both would have tremendous impact regardless in keeping drives alive and moving the sticks, but I’ll go with Tet.
Vasti2112: It’s your first pick – it doesn’t matter where it is (8, trade back, etc.). You are GONNA take defense. You can choose between:
A) Jalon Walker
B) Carson Schwesinger
C) Donovan EizerIdon’tknowhowtospellit
Who do you take?
Jalon Walker. Bring the pitchforks.
dayneb12: One position I think still needs to be addressed is safety. Moehrig is a nice addition, but there’s still only 3 on the roster, with the FS spot still up in there. However, looking at the prospect visits, the Panthers haven’t been very active with only 5 safety visits. Should this be a concern with the draft?
I don’t think the visits matter as much as fans make it out to be. If the Panthers actually did take 2 of the guys they visited with that would be a significant draft investment. However, I don’t think they need to visit with everyone. I think you can pretty safely bet on your scouting of a guy like Malaki Starks without having visited with him. I guess we’ll only know the answer to this one after the Draft, my friends!
